Fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogger Jessica Karelas, is the influencer on-the-rise that you have to keep your eyes on. Having started her booming blog only six months ago, this Boston-loving Boho queen is already making her mark—by staying true to her style, her story, and her big heart. Meet @jessymk: the girl you can always find in a sundress and a smile.
With an immense love for, and strong background in photography, it’s safe to say that Jessy has always had a creative vision. But, as a full-time preschool teacher (who certainly does love her job), it was truly a matter of time before she could bring this vision to life. So for a while, Jessy allowed her passion for all things fashion, and her love for photography to grow—and it wasn’t until a very memorable encounter that Jessy knew it was time to reignite the creative spark that had been dimmed long enough.
During a trip to Florida with a friend, Jessy met a 14 year-old girl who would change her life forever. Though full of life and promise, the aspiring model was crushed by the pressure to have a perfect face and a tiny waist; in her own eyes, she had neither—she didn’t believe she was enough, and was certain she never would be. It was in this exact moment that Jessy knew the time was right to channel her long-subdued creative energy; she was prepared to use it to create a platform that would help girls all around the world see that they are enough.
Jessy admits that entering a universe where comparison is too natural to turn a blind eye to, wasn’t easy. For any fashion blogger just starting off, it’s easier to fall into emulating big names than to establish a presence that is purely yours; but Jessy committed to doing exactly this—sharing her style, while showcasing her true, unfiltered personality. And after growing with a number of reputable brands, her project is proof that your light shines brightest when you stay true to no one but yourself.
In addition to staying true to you, the Charming Charlie ambassador says the best advice she can offer those looking to start a fashion blog is to know your worth. When you learn to value you, the rest of the world will do the same. And it is this exact mindset that generates what Jessy believes is the most rewarding part of this entire experience: the reception from her followers who appreciate not only her style, but also (and more importantly) the heart behind her project.
