It’s Official– Brad Marchand has signed a $49 million eight season contract extension was completed yesterday to the delight of Bruins fans (and Marchands’ accountant).
“I have been a Bruin since the start of my pro career and there is no place I would rather play.” Marchand said in a statement. He went on, “I look forward to doing everything I can to help our team achieve success and bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston.”
This deal binds Brad Marchand to the Bruins through the 2024-2025 season. The 28-year-old left winger now joins his buddy, center Patrice Bergeron, a fellow Bruin in it for the long haul with a contract going on into 2022. Their dynamic was essential in winning the 2011 Stanley Cup and we know they’ve got another few in them.
This was great timing for Brad Marchand and the team, as he is coming off his best pro season yet with a career high of 37 goals, 24 assists and 61 points in the 2015-2016 season. Marchand has been spending the month of September playing for Team Canada in the world cup of hockey, but he will be coming to his true hockey home of Boston for some home pre-games this week. Opening game for the Boston Bruins is October 13th and we will be following them throughout the season to give you the biggest news and highlights.
IMBoston wishes the Bruins the best of luck this season. It’s going to be a fun ride!
