Get Ready for Concert Season: Venues Accessible by Public Transport

Good weather will be here soon (hopefully) and with that comes concert season. If you’re like me it’s what you’ve been saving up for all year. Lots of great bands and artists will be stopping by the Greater Boston Area over the next couple of months, so don’t let your lack of vehicle stop you from seeing your favorites! Here are some local concert venues you can get to with a little help from the public transportation:

TD Garden

Home to the Celtics and Bruins, the Boston Garden also hosts some of the best concerts. A few of the upcoming shows at the stadium include John Mayer, The Chainsmokers, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul Concert. With North Station in such close proximity you can get there via the commuter rail as well as the green and orange lines.

Xfinity Center

One of the best outdoor locations for concerts is the Xfinity center in Mansfield. There is no shortage of concerts that are put on there every summer. This years’ lineup is made of heavy hitters such as Green Day, Jimmy Buffet, Luke Bryan and One Republic. For this location we suggest taking the commuter rail into Mansfield and hopping in a taxi or Uber for a short (13 minute) ride!

Gillette Stadium

A concert a Gillette Stadium is bound to be a good time! With such a large space, a parking lot perfect for tailgating and some of the best in the business heading their way, it is definitely worth the visit. They do offer special event trains for some shows, which are announced two weeks in advance. If you decide to go this route, order your tickets early as they go quickly! If they are not offering this, instead take the commuter rail to Walpole, Sharon or Mansfield and hop in a cab to get you closer to the stadium. This summer will not disappoint with performances from Coldplay, Kenny Chesney, U2, Justin Bieber and Metallica!

DCU Center

Over in Worcester you will find the DCU Center, the place you need to be if you plan on seeing Journey when they come to town in June! One of the great things about this location is that from Union Station you can catch the FREE WRTA Downtown shuttle to the indoor arena. Also, this is a great option for families as the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus will be setting up shop there from April 14th through the 16th!

Dunkin’ Donuts Center

Don’t let state lines hinder your concert intake. Take the commuter rail to Providence for a bevy of great live performances. It’s a mere 4 minute walk from the Providence Train Station to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, which means you have no excuse not to go see a show there. Highlights for this summer include The Chainsmokers (in case you miss them in Boston) and Jason Aldean of the Facebook

Blue Hills Bank Pavillon

An option for concerts within Boston itself is the Blue Hills Bank Pavillion. Take the silver line to Silver Line Way and you will arrive in less than 5 minutes. If the weather is cooperating and you are up for a bit of exercise, consider the 25 minute walk from South Station. Catch Idina Menzel, Ryan Adams, Diana Ross and Young the Giant at the amphitheater this summer!
