Known for his futuristic looking gym sneaker design, Darin Hager has spent the past 27 years in Boston. Nineteen of these twenty-seven years was spent running Heyday Footwear. After growing up in New Jersey, Hager moved to Boston in the early ’90s. Here, he attended Northeastern University, later transferring to Wentworth Institute of Technology.
As the son of an artist and an architect, Hager originally studied architecture, following in his father’s footsteps. Once he realized that he lacked a passion for the field, he shifted gears. Hager began to study industrial design (designing products). Post grad, he went on to work at Marvel as a toy designer. After realizing that toy design still wasn’t the right fit, Hager combined his love for sneakers and still present desire to make a mark in the designing industry, shifting his focus to shoe design. This decision came with its share of challenges.
With such a unique design, it’s impossible for Hager to pull inspiration from just one place. His inspirations comes from a variety of sources, including his customers.
Hager continues to concentrate on providing customers with the best service and products possible.
“If you’re looking to stand out from the crowd, whether you’re in the gym or on the street, Heyday footwear is an independent performance high top sneaker brand. We say its for the freshest in fitness and that you can go from leg day to date night in the same shoes. Try that with another gym sneaker brand. I don’t think it’s gonna happen,” Hager said.
