Five Fall Inspired Cocktails to Heat Up With

My relationship with the cold has always been of a love/hate nature. My hair no longer frizzes from summer humidity…but my skin is drier. The cold can be a refreshing bid to summer heat, but it also makes leaving the house just plain hurt sometimes. Sometimes, a frigid night can dull the desire to celebrate the new season-making it tempting to spend your Saturday night nestled under the covers. If the sudden drop in temperature is making you reconsider your weekend festivities, ease the pain and warm your insides with these delicious and cozy autumn-inspired cocktails.

1. Caramel Apple Sangria

What You Need:

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle of white wine (look for a wine with apple flavors or a reisling)
  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup caramel vodka
  • 2-3 apple, peeled, cored, and diced

How to Make It:

Combine wine, cider, and vodka. Stir. Add in diced apples. Chill for one hour and serve.

2. Maple Bourbon Cider

What you Need:

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How to Make It:

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepot over low heat. Stir. Spoon into cups and serve warm-not hot!

3. Apple Brandy Hot Toddie

What you Need

  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups apple brandy, preferably Calvados
  • 8 3-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 1 1/2 cup water

How to Make It:

In small saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Remove from the heat and stir in the honey until dissolved. Stir in the lemon juice and apple brandy. Set a cinnamon stick in each of 8 mugs or heatproof glasses, pour in the hot liquid and serve.

4. Apple Pie Moscow Mule

What You Need:

  • 4 ounces apple cider
  • 4 ounces apple pie or caramel vodka
  • 1 bottle ginger beer
  • cinnamon sticks and apple slices for garnish

How to Make It:

  • Fill two copper mugs with crushed ice
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine apple cider and vodka. Shake to combine.
  • Pour half of apple cider mix into each mug
  • Top each mug with ginger beer until full
  • Garnish with cinnamon sticks and apple slices

5. Pumpkin Spice White Russian

What you Need:

  • Chocolate syrup
  • 4 T. kahlua
  • 3 T. coffee-mate pumpkin spice liquid creamer
  • 1 1/2 T. vanilla vodka
  • 2-3 tsp. canned pumpkin puree in a small cocktail glass; stir until well combined

How to Make It:

       Combine kahlua, pumpkin spice creamer, vodka, and pumpkin puree in a small cocktail glass. Stir until blended. Add ice. Sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice.
