Summer Zoo Events You Don’t Want to Miss

We think you’ll agree: nothing beats a day at the zoo, especially when there’s a special event happening that day! If you’re looking to make your summer trip to the Stone or Franklin Park Zoo even better than it normally is, be sure to check out one of these cool events. From craft beers to Legos, there truly is something for everybody.

Stone Zoo Events:

Enrichment Day – Saturday, July 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ever wonder what the pipes, balls and other toys lying around animals’ cages at the zoo are? These objects are intended to stimulate animal minds – and give them the chance to have some fun! On Enrichment Day at Stone Zoo, you’ll get the chance to see all your favorite animals have a great time with their learning tools. You’ll also get the chance to learn more about the methods and reasoning for this animal education program.

Sunset Sips (21+) – Saturday, July 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Private zoo experience after dark? Great. Private zoo experience plus two free glasses of wine, music, and a cash bar? Sign us up! Come down for this years Sunset Sips and experience the zoo in a whole new way. This 21+ has a $25 fee (tickets can be bought in advance on the zoo’s website), but will surely be worth it.

Bees and Bears – Saturday, August 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you’re familiar with Winnie the Pooh or any other number of anthropomorphic bears, you might expect bears love honey…or do they? Find out the truth at the Bees and Bears event! This will feature information and activities surrounding the zoo’s black bears and honey bees in the new Animal Discovery Center. There will also be an appearance from special guests, the Berenstain Bears!

Franklin Park Zoo Events:

Legoland Discovery Center Red Panda Build – Saturday, July 29, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This event combines two of Boston’s favorite family attractions, the Franklin Park Zoo and the Legoland Discovery Center! Come down and learn more about the adorable and fascinating Red Pandas. Then, watch in wonder as a Master Model Builder creates a life size red panda out of Lego bricks, right before your eyes!

World Lion Day – Saturday, August 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What better way to celebrate World Lion Day than to visit your local lions? Come out to Franklin Park Zoo to see Dinari and Kamaia and partake in lion themed activities at this special event. There will even be special story telling at the Lion Exhibit at 11 a.m.

Free Fun Friday Sponsored By the Highland Street Foundation – Friday, August 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This will likely be the most packed zoo day of the summer, but for good reason; it’s a free day at one of Boston’s coolest attractions! Sponsored by the Highland Street foundation, admission and parking are free for this event. This is rain or shine, so no matter what, come down for the cheapest day of fun you’ll have all summer (that is, unless you attend the other Free Fun Fridays).

Brew At The Zoo (21+) – Saturday, August 19, 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Celebrating its eighth year, Brew at the Zoo 2017 is sure to be another fantastic night of drinks and fun. Sample drinks and bites from some of the best breweries and restaurants. All of Franklin Park Zoo will be open, so you’ll also get the chance to see your favorite animals. Various ticket packages are available, so get them before they run out! So whether it’s for a date, family, or just for fun, Brew at the Zoo is one of the best summer events the city has to offer.
