1.Where are you from originally? What brought you to Boston?
I grew up in Carlisle, MA which is 45 minutes outside of Boston. When I was 23 years old, I moved to Seattle, Washington and lived there for 5 years (with a quick stint in England for a year). In 2013, I moved back to Boston.
2. Can you describe yourself in three words?
Three words is tough. Creative, Witty + Energetic.
3. How did you come up with the name, quip+ivy? We love it!
Thank you! I’m so glad you like it! It took me awhile to come up with it. I wanted to pick two words that both held their own, but also sounded good together. I wanted one word that had to do with my business, which is how I came up with quip. It means a witty or funny remark made in the spur of the moment, which I feel has a strong connection to social media. I wanted the other word to have something to do with nature because it’s always such an inspiration for me. Originally, I thought of ivy because of how it grows and grasps to things; I thought of it like networking. When I researched ivy more, I found adjectives like strong, vibrant, loyal, true + wild. Ivy seemed like a perfect fit and quip + ivy stuck.
4. The best piece of advice you have ever received or given?
This one is hard because I’ve been lucky enough to have incredible + inspirational people around me my whole life. I think “believe in yourself” is the best advice I’ve gotten and that anyone could give you. Building self-confidence allows you to convince others to believe in you and therefore sets you closer to your goals and continuing success. In most cases we don’t know exactly what we’re capable of, but believing in yourself is the what pushes you to find out.
5. What’s something that gets you most excited?
This is easy because the answer hasn’t changed since I was a toddler. People + Food have ALWAYS made me happy. Those two things have been a constant source of excitement + enjoyment in my life and something that won’t change.
