Willie Crosby – The Natural Explorer behind Fungi Ally

Fungi Ally

Meet Willie Crosby, the natural explorer behind Fungi Ally.

“Taking a step back and listening to the opportunities that are present can guide me in a really positive direction.”

Can you tell me about your background?

I grew up in a small town outside of Boston, Boxborough. I attended college at Stockbridge school of Agriculture in Amherst and fell in love with the area. Now I grow mushrooms in the Amherst area and bring them to places around Boston to sell.

When and why did you start fungi education business? And why choose fungi?

I started Fungi Ally 3 years ago as a mushroom cultivation and education business. I was working in vegetable production and became fascinated by mushrooms ability to transform waste products like sawdust into a medicinal food source. Teaching other people how to incorporate mushrooms into their lives has become my passion as I have dived deeper into the benefits of fungi.

What is your most memorable workshop experience? Why?

We were walking in the woods during one of the workshops and we came across a massive fruiting of Wine Caps. It was so amazing to see everyone’s faces light up like when a kid finds an egg on Easter. Going out and finding mushrooms in the woods brings out this amazing side of us, and when you are able to find delicious food out in the woods it is so fun!

Who/what was inspired you to become the person you are today?

Listening is my biggest inspiration. I think it is easy to get caught up in the goals and ideas of life that we make, but I have found taking a step back and listening to the opportunities that are present can guide me in a really positive direction.

What are your passions in life?

Mushrooms are definitely one of my biggest passions, growing them, finding them, cooking them, they are AWESOME! I also love to camp, go on hikes, do yoga and meditate.

What does Boston mean to you?

For me, Boston is a place for fun and community. To gather with friends and soon to be friends to share music, sports and food.
